During the summer in Tahoe, mountain biking is a popular sport since there are many trails offered here. One day we decided to rent mountain bikes for a few hours and bike up the Powerline Trail to High Meadows. As newbies to the sport, we won’t be recommended any gear yet. The bikes we did rent were a lot of fun!
We road Powerline Trail to Cold Creek Trail to High Meadows, and it took us about 4 hours roundtrip. We initially wanted to bike to Star Lake, but once we reached High Meadows after 2 hours, we felt done for the day and decided to turn back.
Right at the beginning of the trail, there are beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and forest, but later there are no more views as the trail takes you through forest. About halfway, there is a nice view of the creek and small waterfall. There are no long climbs on this trail, but there are some short uphill parts where we had to walk our bikes up. Towards the end near High Meadows, there are some rock gardens that we also walked. Overall, this mountain biking trail is perfect for beginners and those looking for an easy to moderate ride.
To get to the trailhead, follow Ski Run Blvd to Saddle Rd. The trail begins at the end of Saddle Rd.
